How to Uninstall a Program That Is Not Listed

Applications that you have on your computer usually automatically show up on your Add and Remove Programs list. This allows you to remove these programs from your machine in the future, if you desire to do so. However, if an application does not appear in your list of programs, it may have an application name with greater than 60 characters. In this case, you can overcome this challenge if you know how to edit the title of your application with the Registry Editor.

Instructions

    • 1
Go to "Start" and then to the "Run" dialog box, or press your Windows and "R" keys at the same time.

    • 2
Enter the "regedit" command in your Run box and press "Enter."

    • 3
Go to the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall" registry key.

Click on the registry key of the application you desire to remove from your computer. Click "Edit" and then "Rename."

<LI class=step>5
Modify the title to fewer than 60 characters and press "Enter." Close the Registry Editor. This enables the previously unlisted program to come up in the Add/Remove Programs tool, so you can remove it if you choose.
